thirty percent of a picture

White walls surround an open wooden door to another room; its walls crawl with more white. A white rectangular poster bleeding red text screams mere contrast against the room?s walls.

An open wooden dresser drawer exposes tired white t-shirts, folded precise and firm. A blue comforter is drawn down the bed, exposing white sheets with tiny blue imperfections.

Sitting on the edge of the unmade bed, a young man, wearing a long-sleeved white thermal, hunches over an old typewriter. Making ?ticks? and ?dings,? the young man unravels his nonchalant, innocent thought on the sea of keys.

On the floor, spread like two slabs of cold butter, lay a closed blue folder, which holds unattended assignments and premature poetry, and a white piece of paper, which is folded twice to make the perfect square.

The young man?s skin is clammy and pale; his hair somewhat long, a cluster of it hangs over his left ear. His face shows nothing more than intense determination, glasses fixed at the bridge of his nose, its narrow wired stems settled somewhere in the overabundance of the his untamed sideburns, which inch down his face to be perpendicular to the upper lip of his mouth.

His eyebrows are slightly strained, making small upside down ?U?s? above the thick, oval rims of his bold blue frames. His eyes, which also bleed a bold blue, are poised downwards, concerned only on the typewriter, which sits equal in height to his ninety degree angle legs, on an awkward table; the table?s legs are unstable, wobbly like the dysfunctional shopping carts the old ladies always manage to get at the supermarket.

Without the features of his head or the dirty khaki color of his cut-off shorts, there would be no contrast between the young man and the wall behind him.

i love machinery...

i so dig his shit.

but i do have one problem with the above...

ok ok... this is merely cosmetic...


i like the overall restraint this piece has...
the edges, the bound angles...
but a 'sea' of keys kinda transcends that feel.

i think the keys also have the contention of
restraint and order... similar to the rest of
the imagery. all generic keyboards have the
same positions... so it does kinda seem to
be the one flaw in this work.

nah, this is a part of a short story i'm working on...about a guy getting kicked out of college and having to clean his apt. room...and when he cleans out his desk, he finds four pictures....so each picture i write a thousand words about it...

this is only three hundred words, the other 700 talk bout the night i took the picture...and what happened that night....i'll post some more of it later...
